Senator Mandago, a co-defendant in the KSh1.1B case, describes how he was unintentionally appointed chair of the board of trustees.

On Monday, July 1, the trial of Uasin Gishu Senator Jackson Mandago and two other former county officials continued. They are accused of embezzling KSh1.1 billion from the Finland scholarship program.

Before Senior Principal Magistrate Alloys Ndege of the Nakuru Law Courts, the prosecution, led by Counsel Angeline Chinga, introduced Meshack Rono and Joshua Kipkemboi Lelei as their first witnesses in the case against Senator Mandago.

Charges against the three accused include conspiring to commit a felony in violation of Section 393 of the Penal Code, which resulted in the loss of KSh1.1 billion from an account under the Uasin Gishu Education Trust Fund that was intended to pay for students’ tuition at foreign universities participating in the Uasin Gishu County Overseas Education Program.

In court, the witness gave a testimony and explained.
